Yahoo, Magellan and Librarians' Index to the Internet are general web directories. Web directories are created by people, who review web sites and assign them to subject categories. The purpose of a web directory is to provide a selective, well-organized list of useful sites. Web directories sometimes also have a search engine to help you locate categories of interest. Subject-specific web directories, sometimes called "gateways," focus on a specific subject area and are more selective. Examples of specialized web directories include FindLaw and HealthWeb. |
