Web Directories

Yahoo, Magellan and Librarians' Index to the Internet are general web directories. Web directories are created by people, who review web sites and assign them to subject categories. The purpose of a web directory is to provide a selective, well-organized list of useful sites. Web directories sometimes also have a search engine to help you locate categories of interest. Subject-specific web directories, sometimes called "gateways," focus on a specific subject area and are more selective. Examples of specialized web directories include FindLaw and HealthWeb.
