In most academic libraries you will find two types of encyclopedia: general and subject. General encyclopedias, such as Encyclopedia Britannica and World Book Encyclopedia, include information on all areas of knowledge, and are good for overviews of a topic, or as starting points when little is known about a topic. Subject encyclopedias exist for most fields, and include titles such as International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences, Encyclopedia of Bioethics, The Encyclopedia of Jazz, and Black Women in America: an historical encyclopedia. | |
