There are numerous forms and types
of dictionaries, the most familiar being general English language dictionaries
such as the American Heritage Dictionary or Webster’s dictionary of the English
language, used for guidance on the definition, spelling, pronunciation, and
etymology (history) of words. Another very commonly found type of dictionary
is a subject dictionary, which is a dictionary devoted to a specialized field,
such as Dictionary of Symbols in Western Art, Historical Dictionary of African
Americans, and the Dictionary of Botanical Neuroscience. |
