Is this website any good?

In order to decide, ask yourself the following questions. . .

Authority/Source
  • Who created this web site?
  • Do they provide information on their background, experience, and credentials?
  • Is the site maintained by a well-known or reputable organization (e.g. the American Psychological Association or the National Institutes of Health, or a University research group)?
Accuracy
  • Are the facts reliable? Is the information clear, complete, and professional-looking?
  • Does the site provide links to references, in order to substantiate claims?
Objectivity
  • Is the coverage objective? If not, is the bias clearly stated?
  • Is the site sponsored by a commercial organization? Is it trying to sell you something?
Currency
  • Does the web site provide a date when it was last updated? If so, has it been updated recently?
  • Is the information clearly out of date?
  • Are there many broken links? Broken links can be an indicator that a web site is not being updated regularly.
Coverage
  • Who is the intended audience? Is this site for scholarly purposes, for fun, or for a specific purpose that makes it biased or limited in coverage?
  • What geographical area or time period is covered?
  • Does the content come from original documents or has is it an edited or abridged version of an original source?
