A database is made up of many records. Each record represents a single item, such as an article, a book chapter, a picture, or a particular set of data.
A record is made up of several fields. Each field represents a piece of information that describes the item, such as the subject, author, title, language, or date of creation. By using the information in these fields, you can construct searches that will retrieve citations that match your research topic. For example, you might search for citations with the term "memory" in the title field.
After searching on a topic and retrieving a set of articles, you need to aquire the articles. Some may be available online, in full text. You may need to photocopy others (check the catalog to see if your library owns the journal), or request a photocopy from another library through ILL (expect 7-10 days for delivery).
